October 2025

October Update

October is always a great time to be in Geelong. The days have been getting warmer, flowers are blooming everywhere, and there’s plenty happening around town. Whether you enjoy live music, markets, or simply looking for something fun to do on the weekend, there’s something for everyone. With Halloween just around the corner, there’s also a little bit of spooky season in the air.

This year, we switched to daylight saving time on Sunday, October 6th. While we lost an hour of sleep, the longer evenings make it easier to get out and enjoy all the springtime activities. And don’t forget, Geelong Cup Day falls on Wednesday, October 22nd and is observed as a public holiday. It’s a perfect midweek chance to relax or join in the fun.

TCG Presents: AFL Grand Final Sausage Sizzle!

This past Sunday, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting the very first TCG community event where everyone, including clients, workers, friends, and family, came together for an afternoon of great food, good company, and footy fun at the beautiful Cobbin Homestead.

The sun was shining, the sausages were sizzling, and the energy was high as we celebrated the end of the footy season and simply enjoyed spending time together. It was such a special moment seeing everyone in one place, sharing laughs and stories over plates of snags and fairy bread.

One of the highlights of the day was presenting the first prize in our footy tipping competition to none other than Shane H, whose tipping talents impressed us all. It was a well-deserved win. Shane even shared some sage advice for aspiring tippers next season: “Do the research!” Simple and solid.

We also couldn’t go past Geoff, who took out the best dressed prize in spectacular style. He was decked out in black and yellow from head to toe, and his Richmond pride was on full display. He even had a matching plate, cup, and cutlery to seal the win. Now that’s commitment.

A massive thank you goes out to Beck and Michael, who worked tirelessly in the kitchen serving up sausages all afternoon. They were a hit. And shoutout to my sister Bella, who brought the magic touch to the dip platter and fairy bread. No Aussie gathering is complete without it.

To everyone who came out, thank you. It honestly means so much to Matt and I that you chose to spend your Sunday with us. We’re already looking forward to the next one. There will definitely be more.

Amy H stars in the latest Geelong FoodShare commercial

At TCG, we love celebrating the achievements of the people we support. This month, we’re excited to shine a light on Amy H, whose dedication to her community continues to inspire us all.

Amy regularly volunteers at Geelong Food Share, and it’s safe to say it’s one of the highlights of her week. We support her in attending her shifts, and we’re always hearing about the joy and pride she gets from being involved. Whether she’s helping behind the scenes or lending a hand to keep things running smoothly, Amy brings a whole lot of heart to everything she does.

Last month, Amy’s commitment and enthusiasm were recognised in a very special way. She was invited to be part of Geelong Food Share’s newest commercial, and of course, she accepted. We were lucky enough to get some great behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot (big thanks to SW Taylah!).

It’s moments like these that remind us how important community involvement is. Amy’s passion for giving back, her reliability, and her friendly spirit all shine through in the work she does. We are so proud of her and her ongoing efforts to make a difference.

Well done, Amy. We can’t wait to see what you do next!

Steps to success with Erin F

We’ve had the pleasure of supporting Erin F for many years and love seeing the progress she makes toward her goals. Surrounded by a big, loving team of support workers, Erin’s determination and positivity shine through every step of the way.

Recently, Erin’s team shared some amazing photos from her physio sessions, where she’s been practicing her walk. With permission from Erin’s mum Heather, we’re thrilled to share these inspiring moments that truly showcase Erin’s strength and dedication.

We also enjoyed seeing Erin and her whole family at the TCG sausage sizzle. One of the highlights was a lovely photo of Erin with support worker Bella, sharing smiles and good times. It was wonderful to have the whole family turn out and be part of the day.

Erin, your journey is truly inspiring, and we’re so proud to support you as you continue to reach for your goals.

Geoff J and his new wheels

After a long wait, Geoff J finally received his brand-new wheelchair and it’s nothing short of spectacular. With great support from his coordinator Michelle, Geoff now has a chair that fits him perfectly and shows off his personality.

I had a chat with Geoff on Sunday at the sausage sizzle and he shared the fun story behind his custom ride. When he was test-driving the wheelchair in the store, he asked the clerk if it could be customized to match his favourite footy team, Black and Yellow for Richmond. The clerk responded that they thought they could make that happen. And make it happen they did.

The wheelchair now shines in Richmond’s iconic colours, reflecting Geoff’s attention to detail and deep love for his team. It was no surprise that this stunning setup helped him take out the best dressed prize at the sausage sizzle.

Geoff’s wheelchair is more than just mobility; it is a statement and a brilliant celebration of his passion.
